For eight years, one remarkable community event has brought people together with a shared purpose: to honour the memory of Kate Louise Finnegan while raising vital funds for Little Lights Liverpool.
What began as a heartfelt tribute has grown into an inspiring annual tradition that has raised more than £100,000 for the hospice over the years, helping support babies, children and families facing the most challenging circumstances.
A Walk Inspired by Love
Kate’s Coastal Walk is held in memory of Kate Louise Finnegan, who sadly died at just 13 years old. Though her life was far too short, her legacy continues to touch countless lives through the dedication of her family, friends and supporters who take part each year.
At the heart of the event is Kate’s father, Ged Finnegan, whose determination to honour his daughter has inspired hundreds of people to lace up their walking boots and make a difference.
The Challenge
Each spring, supporters gather at the iconic Red Bull statue on Otterspool Promenade before setting off on a challenging 26-mile coastal walk. The route not only tests participants’ endurance but also serves as a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience and community spirit that lie at the heart of the event.
In 2026, walkers once again came together to support Little Lights Liverpool, raising an incredible £13,000+, far exceeding the original fundraising target.

Every mile walked and every pound raised helps Little Lights Liverpool continue providing specialist care and support for babies and young children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, alongside practical and emotional support for their families.
