The same care, the same compassion
Although our name has changed, the heart of our hospice has not.
As Little Lights Baby Hospice Liverpool, our dedicated team continues to provide the same specialist care for babies and children with life-limiting conditions, alongside compassionate and practical support for their families.
Our community saved this hospice once, and we hope our supporters will continue to stand beside us as we begin this new chapter—helping us keep our Little Lights shining for many more years to come.
Our hospice was opened as Zoe’s Place in 1995 and was the first hospice in the UK specifically for babies and younger children.
As of 1st August 2026 we are now called Little Lights Liverpool Baby Hospice. Our purpose remains to ensure babies, children and families can access care and support when they need it most and that care and support continues to be provided by the same dedicated and committed team.
Our team of specialist nurses and healthcare assistants are supported by a wide range of other healthcare professionals to provide end of life care, respite care, therapies and bereavement care to babies and children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families. We are building a state-of-the-art new facility in West Derby opening in March 2027.
Why did we change our name?
Liverpool Zoe’s Place is now Little Lights Baby Hospice Liverpool. While our name has changed, our purpose, our people and the care we provide remain the same.
A new chapter for our hospice
In 2024, our hospice faced the devastating possibility of closure because Zoe’s Place Trust no longer had the funds needed to keep the Liverpool hospice running.
The response from our community was extraordinary. Families, businesses, schools and supporters across Liverpool and beyond came together to raise the money needed to save the hospice and protect its vital services.
Thanks to their incredible generosity, the hospice was given a future. However, as part of the agreement with Zoe’s Place Trust, the Liverpool hospice was required to become an independent charity, separate from the other Zoe’s Place hospices in Coventry and Middlesbrough. This meant establishing a new organisation with a new name.
It was an incredibly difficult and emotional decision for our staff and Board of Trustees. Liverpool is where Zoe’s Place was founded by Professor Jack Scarisbrick, and the name will always be an important part of our history. However, becoming an independent charity gave us the opportunity to protect the care our families depend upon and build a secure future here in Liverpool.
How Little Lights got its name
We wanted our new name to reflect the children and families at the heart of everything we do, while celebrating the community that fought so hard to save our hospice.
Local schoolchildren were invited to help us find a name for this new chapter. Little Lights was suggested by Amelia, a pupil at St Paul’s Primary School in West Derby, and it captured everything we wanted our new name to represent: hope, love and the light each child brings into the lives of those around them.
